Sarah Katherine "Kate" Bell

Sarah Katherine (Kate) Lucas Hurley Bell, 99, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at Hospice of Randolph in Asheboro, North Carolina.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, February 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro and other times at the home of her daughter, Linda Sawyer. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro with Elder John Wingfield and Pastor Ricky Sessoms officiating. Interment will be in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery, 905 Abner Road, Troy, North Carolina.

Kate was born June 22, 1918, to the late George and Rachel Lucas. She loved her family, friends, and her flower gardens. She enjoyed cooking for her family and spent many days tending her gardens. We will always remember the famous "Kate's Pickles," creamed corn, and apple and pecan pies. She always gave of herself to others and will be sorely missed. Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse Hurley, and second husband, Richard Bell; brothers, Robert Lucas and Glenn Lucas; and sisters, Ruth Wood and Naomi Nichols.

Kate is survived by devoted stepdaughters, Diane B. Luck and husband, Ray; Linda B. Sawyer and husband, Carl; Becky B. Chappell and husband Randall; and Patsy B. Nichols and husband, Danny, who was also a loving nephew. She is survived by brothers Hal Lucas of Star, George (Buddy) Lucas of Star; sisters, Helen Lucas Burns of Asheboro, Margie Lucas Royal of Troy; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous special nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.

The family would like to thank the staff at North Pointe Assisted Living and Hospice of Randolph County for the tender care they provided for Kate.
