Hal Worth Hodgin, 74, of Asheboro passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Randolph Hospice House.

Hal was born November 21, 1943 in Randolph County, the son of Keith Grimes Hodgin, Sr. and Annie Jarrett Hodgin, both deceased.

He worked hard all of his life.  At age 7 with the help of his Dad, he got up every morning before school to deliver the newspaper and continued into his early teens.  As a teenager he worked after school and weekends for Jed Cox at the "first" Jed's Sandwich Shop on Fayetteville Street beside what was then Randolph Savings & Loan.  After receiving his training, he was a lifeguard at Memorial Swimming Pool.  In 1964 he began work at what was the Union Carbide at Plant 1.  In August 1966, he was drafted into the army, where he served 2 years; 14 months of them in Korea.  When he came home in August 1968, he returned to work for what is now known Energizer Batter, Plant 2 where he retired in 2003 after 36 years of service.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, a Life member of Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699 AF&AM since April 1965, Honorary member of Marietta Lodge #444, Hanks Lodge #128, Balfour Lodge #188, and Blackmer Lodge #127.  He served as Master of his lodge in 1990 and after that, secretary for 9 years, District Deputy Grand Master from 2000-2003.  He was also in Ivanhoe Commandery #8 Knights Templar, Greensboro, NC and the York Rite College #124.

In his younger years he enjoyed swimming and golf.  He always enjoyed watching racing and working and piddling in the basement with his machines and tools.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Teresa Way Hodgin, son, Jeffrey W. Hodgin and wife Shanna of Asheboro, daughter, Jill Hodgin Ragan of Mebane, grandsons, Ryan C. Hodgin and wife Clara of High Point, Zachary T. Hodgin of Greensboro, Ian M. Ragan of Mebane, one granddaughter, Emily K. Ragan of Mebane, 2 great-grandchildren, Nora L. Hodgin and Wesley R. Hodgin both of High Point, brother, Keith G. Hodgin, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Coleridge, sisters, Ann H. Brady of Asheboro and Jane H. Teague and husband C.E. of Erect, also numberous nephews, nieces, and friends.

His service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville Street in Asheboro.  The visitation will be held from 2:00-3:15 pm on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the church.  The service will begin at 3:30 pm on Sunday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating.  Burial will follow at Holly Spring Friends Meeting in Ramseur with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
