William Harris Russell

William Harris (Bill) Russell, age 80, of Asheboro died Friday, June 15, 2018 at Randolph Health.

Mr. Russell was born January 24, 1938, the son of Cecil Bryce and Opal Graves Russell.  Bill was a native of Randolph County and retired from Roadway Express after 32 years of service.  He was a Master Mason of 50 plus years and, while a member of Balfour Lodge #188 AF&AM, he was a three time Past Master.  His current membership is with the Asheboro Lodge #699 AF&AM.  Bill loved playing golf and watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves and was a season ticket holder for the Asheboro Copperheads.  He enjoyed fishing and farming and never met a stranger.  Bill was a proud supporter of the UNC Tar Heels and the UVA Cavaliers sports.  In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by sons; William Mark Russell and Wayne King and his brother; Cecil Bryce Russell, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Humble Russell of the home; son, Mac Russell and wife Cheryl of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Molly and Erin Russell of Charlottesville, VA, Brianne Latham and husband Cale of Seagrove; great grandchildren, Ayden and Caleigh Latham of Seagrove; and sister, Nancy Dancy and husband Pat of Ireland.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 17, 2018 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.  The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro with Dr. J.F. Howard Sr. and Rev. Gerald Ward officiating.  Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
