Obituary of John David Wagner

John David Wagner, 63, went to be with his Lord January 16, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of the home; stepsons, Jay Dale and wife Suzanne of Trinity, Steve Dale and girlfriend Melanie Shane of Asheboro; grandson, Nicholas Dale of Trinity; brother-in-law, Jack Maness of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Kay Wagner of Welcome; sisters, Becky Harvey and husband Danny of Welcome, Mary Snow and husband Moyer of Advance; many dearly loved cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog of 14 years, Molly.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Edith Wagner; brother, Bill Wagner and sister, Lorraine Harrison.

John was retired from S & R Textiles where he was a sales representative for 23 years.

John was very active in the horse industry and trained Tennessee Walking Horses for over 20 years. In 1988 he was elected Trainer of the Year in North Carolina and Virginia. He served as Central Region Vice-President for the NC Horse Council for many years and as President of the Davidson County Horsemens/REINS Association for 6 years.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 11:00-12:45 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 505 S. Park St., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Doug Hefner officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Robbins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kirsten Cox and the staff at Cox Family Practice for their many years of care. Also, a special thanks to the doctors and staff of Forsyth Medical Center.
