Shirleen Mayberry Cockman

Shirleen Mayberry Cockman, age 87, of Asheboro passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Randolph Hospice House.

Mrs. Cockman was born in Forsyth County on January 24, 1932 to Robert Lee and Effie Cornelia Laughlin Mayberry. She was retired from Randolph Hospital after 20 years of service. Shirleen was faithful to God and her church, Balfour Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. In addition to her parents, Shirleen was preceded in death by her husband, Colon Cockman, and the fathers of her children, Neely Wade Gray and Paul Henry Brooks, sister, Eloise Hunt, step sisters, Girlene McGill and Evelyn Bradshaw, and step brother, Brooks Houtchings. Shirleen had a commanding presence, and was a jovial, loving, and giving lady.

She is survived by her sons, Danny Wade Gray (Debbie) of Asheboro, Darrell Wayne Gray (Elyse) of Orlando, FL, and Donald Wilson Gray (Cathy) of Greensboro; daughters, Lisa Ann Brooks Welch (Clayton) of Randleman, and Lori Ann Brooks Beasley (Craig) of Asheboro; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 10:30 am-11:45 am at Balfour Baptist Church, 1644 North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Thursday at 12:00 noon at Balfour Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Mason officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
