Malinda Bain Richbourg

d. February 17, 2019

Malinda Bain Richbourg, age 67, of New London passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with her husband David by her side.

Malinda graduated from UNCG in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She began work at UNCG in 1974 working in Undergraduate Admissions, undertaking increasing responsibilities, and ultimately retiring in 2008 as the Associate Director for Operations. In 1995, she was recognized by the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers as the inaugural recipient of the Charlie Hendrix Award for Outstanding Service. She returned to UNCG as a part-time employee with ITS in 2009 assisting in duplicate PIDM resolution as part of the Data Management group, continuing to coordinate resolutions as she had done since 1998.

Malinda was both a people person and a data person, a rare combination of skills. Everywhere she went she either already knew someone, or through conversation quickly made a new friend. Her eye for process and attention to detail helped UNCG admissions grow from the pre-computing era through to our Banner world today.

UNCG is most fortunate to have had her to faithfully serve her alma mater for 45 years.

Malinda and her husband David are avid sports fans and long-time supporters of UNCG Athletics, particularly basketball and baseball.

Malinda was a former volunteer with the Badin Lake EMS and the American Red Cross.

There are no current plans for a memorial service, but there will be a campus based gathering at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Malinda B. & David L Richbourg Endowed Athletic Scholarship at UNCG, P.O. Box 26170, Greensboro, NC 27402-6170 or the Badin Lake Volunteer EMS, P.O. Box 239, New London, NC 28127.

Malinda is survived by her husband, David Richbourg; brother, Seavy Bain (Marilyn) of Charlotte; nieces, Shandra Whitt (Ralph), Sharilyn Strain (Sean), Shalynn Grabow (Kevin), and Sharyl Villier (Tony); 7 great nieces; and 6 great nephews.

Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, NC is serving the Richbourg family.
