Obituary of Rev. Thomas Edwin Luther

Rev. Thomas Edwin Luther, age 70, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at his home.

Rev. Luther was born in Randolph County on July 2, 1948 to Davis and Joyce Callicutt Luther. He was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College. Edwin has been pastoring with the Wesleyan Church for 49 years, including Mt. Wesley, Mt. Airy, North Kannapolis, Jonathan Valley, Spring Hill, and most recently, Kildee. Edwin was a faithful, loving husband, father, and pastor. In addition to his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Mischa Luther. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring old cars, gardening, and hiking. He was a talented musician who loved to sing and play the guitar.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sarah Raines Luther; daughter, Jane Luther French and husband Larry of York, SC; son, Thomas "Tom" Jefferson Luther and wife Kristin of Charlotte; grandchildren, Brianna French, Autumn Luther, and Daniel Luther; siblings, Rev. Arnold Luther and wife Darlene, David Luther, Rebecca Smith and husband Rev. Bill Smith, Mark Luther, and Deborah Moffitt and husband William; aunt and uncle, Allen and Barbara Luther; 9 nieces and nephews; 4 great nephews; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Raines.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm at High Pine Wesleyan Church, 4492 High Pine Church Road in Asheboro with Rev. Jerry Lumston, Rev. Trent Patterson, and Rev. Justin LaBarre officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
