Julia Faye Jarrell Howell

d. June 14, 2019

Julia Faye Howell died on Friday, June 14th in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Born on January 2, 1926, she was the daughter of Frank Jarrell and Beatrice née Crocker.  She grew up in Asheboro and attended Asheboro High School on Fayetteville Street where she was a member of the Women’s Varsity Basketball Team.  After school, she dedicated her time to raising children and working as a Textile Technician at Acme McCrary.  Known for her work ethic and high energy level, Julia was a talented artist and cook.  She was also a true Carolina Girl and enjoyed spending time camping around our state and annual family beach weeks.

During the course of her lifetime, Julia was an enthusiastic parishioner at several local churches where she taught Sunday School and ministered to shut in members of the community.  Lovingly called “Nana” by her family, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Although she had many interests and talents, her true passions in life were her faith in Jesus Christ and love for her grandchildren.  She was a consummate “Nana” who spoiled her family with homemade cakes, Sunday lunches, generous hugs and encouraging words.  Julia is predeceased by her husband Odell H. Allred (1950) and husband James C. Howell (2003).

She is survived by her children Thomas Odell Allred (Dianne), Brenda A. Boyd, both of Asheboro, and Mike Howell (Malinda) of Augusta, GA.  She is also survived by five grandchildren, Bobby Nance, Candace Wehr (Peter), Jonathan Thomas Allred (Sarah), Stefanie Ellingsworth (Jeff), Clint Howell (Morgan), and ten great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 2:00 - 2:45 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.  The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel.

Julia’s family wish to express their gratitude to her caregiving team at Hospice of Randolph County.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204-0009, www.hospiceofrandolph.org
