Benjamin "Ben" Richard Vick

Benjamin Richard “Ben” Vick, Sr., age 82, of Asheboro died Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

Mr. Vick was born October 1, 1936 in Covington, VA to Ollie and Lillian “Mackie” Vick. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vick was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Richard "Benjie" Vick, Jr.

He was a member of Sunset Avenue Church of God and had a great love of the Lord and his church family. In 2001, following a serious health event, the Lord called upon his heart to join in the leadership of a special bible study for men at the Harvest Camp Addiction and Rehabilitation Center. His testimony and natural ability to connect to people influenced many residents over the years.

He graduated from Asheboro High School and was a standout football player under legendary coach, Lee J. Stone. He was offered a football scholarship to attend Vanderbilt University. However, he chose to attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of Chi Phi fraternity. He later attended Guilford College. Mr. Vick was retired owner/operator of the family business, Vick Brothers Electric.

He was always a charismatic, adventurous and fun-loving person. He had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and enjoyed several cross-country motorcycle trips including a special trip with his son Jackson in 2001. He also loved his time watching and assisting competitive motocross racing with his son. His other hobbies have included flying antique aircraft, mule breeding, racing Legends cars, golf, camping trips to Florida and his favorite, shag dancing. 

He is survived by his wife, Delane Newman Vick; daughter, Teresa Vick Johnson and her husband Dr. James Johnson of Salisbury; son, Jackson Ross Vick of Asheboro and daughter, Tiffany Wimbish Gilchrist and her husband Scott Gilchrist of Indian Trail; grandchildren, Benjamin Vick III, Britni Antonelli, Erica Branson, Austin Johnson, Parker Johnson, Zach Johnson, Braxton Vick, Keaton Weatherly, Rachel Gilchrist, Joshua Gilchrist and great grandchild, Milo Antonelli.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Pastor Boyd Byerly officiating.  The family will receive friends following the funeral service. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 11:00 am.
