David Wayne Garner

David Wayne Garner, age 74, of Asheboro died Saturday, July 20, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Garner was born June 14, 1945, the son of Vernon Everett Garner and Evelyn Haywood Garner.

David was a native of Randolph County and a life-long member of Balfour Baptist Church. He served his church by teaching Sunday School and as a deacon. David taught for the Randolph County School system for 30 years before retiring from Southwestern Randolph High School. He enjoyed playing golf and doing yard work. David loved his family and especially his 5 grandsons. David was preceded in death by his father: Vernon E. Garner; mother: Evelyn Haywood Garner-Ingold; and niece: Toni Garner Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years: Phyllis Strider Garner; two daughters: Jill Garner Walker of Randleman and Myra Garner Howell and her husband Jeffrey of Asheboro; five grandsons: Caleb Walker, Camden Walker, Brady Howell, Jaxon Howell and Myles Howell; three brothers: Darrell (Sammie) Garner of Boone, Steve (Melinda) Garner of Asheboro, Stan (Debbie) Garner of Asheboro; step brother: Leon (Montie) Ingold of Asheboro; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Balfour Baptist Church, 1642 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Rev. Gary Mason officiating.

Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
