Felix Lloyd Ward

d. July 30, 2019

Felix Lloyd Ward, 66, of Asheboro died Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 3, at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro (FUMC), where he was a member, with Rev. Lynda Ferguson and Rev. Edward Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 2, at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave, Asheboro.

Felix was born August 7, 1952, in Asheboro to Lloyd and Voyle Ward who preceded him in death. He was a 1970 graduate of Asheboro High School and later of Pfeiffer University.  He was a man of many passions consisting of faith, family, occupation, health, friends and the land. Felix was an active member of his church (FUMC) where he participated in numerous committees, which led to the enrichment of the church.  These include the FUMC First Garden and sanctuary renovation. He was known to many by his garden on Shamrock Road that was a beacon to all for flowers, food, and admiration. He was an avid fan of Carolina sports and the New York Yankees and played volleyball on Monday nights at the YMCA for 30 years.

He loved his family, being wingman for his wife, Judy, larger than life father to his children, Adam and Katie, best friend to his brother, Larry, a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Poppy, and enjoyed their annual family beach trip. He was a wonderful farmer, taking care of the cows, goats, chickens, and fish at Ward Farms.  He was responsible for the Ward Farms fainting goats, especially the babies in the Ward Farms Maternity Wards which gave so much pleasure to so many—adults and children alike.

He was employed by the City of Asheboro for 20+ years and felt blessed to have played a major role in the beautification and revitalization of Downtown Asheboro.  He considered himself so lucky to have worked with administrators and employees who had a vision for the City of Asheboro.  He taught at Randleman Middle School for 16 years before going to work for the city.

He is survived by his wife Judy Ward of Asheboro, son Adam Ward and wife Ashley of Atlanta, daughter Katie Gonzalez and husband Joe of Raleigh, grandchildren Piper, Ryder, Remy, & Eliana. He is also survived by his brother Larry Ward and wife Barbara of Asheboro and brother in-law Gilbert Cox of Pleasant Garden.
