Obituary of Rev. Clay Davis
Earth's loss is Heaven's gain. The Rev. Harold Clay Davis, age 78, of Asheboro went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 2, 2019.
Rev. Davis was born in Seagrove on November 9, 1940 to Wesley Daniel and Ethel Iola Voncannon Davis. Clay served his country in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany from 1959-1961 and was an expert rifleman. He was a 1986 graduate of Mid-Atlantic Bible College. He formerly served as pastor of Crossroads Baptist Church in Robbins, Central Falls Baptist Church, Asbury Baptist Church, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Antioch Christian Church, and Hunt's Plank Road Chapel, and currently was pastor for New Life Baptist Church. While ministry was his calling, music was his life. Beginning in 1970, Clay had a singing ministry known as The Davis Brothers and Barbara. In addition to his parents, Clay was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Jean Hoover and Lola Mae Owens, Maxine Cooper, twin brother, Ray, Arnold and James Winfred Davis. Clay loved his family, his tractor, and his garden.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Smith Davis; daughter, Tammy Fletcher and husband James of Asheboro; son, Rodney Davis and wife Sylvia of Asheboro; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lewis and husband Michael, and Bradley Fletcher; great granddaughter, Emma; sister-in-law, Lois Davis; brother-in-law, Wiley Hoover; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Asbury Baptist Church, 395 Asbury Church Road in Seagrove with Rev. Jimmy Upton, Pastor Jim Honeycutt, Rev. Ralph Voncannon, Dr. Bruce Dickerson, and Rev. Dave Mayo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
