Bernice Clydette "Pinky" Lambert

d. November 27, 2019

Bernice Clydette "Pinky" Lambert, age 76, of Randleman left this earth peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, November 27, 2019 to be with Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior she faithfully served. She was born September 24, 1943, in New Bern, NC, the youngest child of three to Clyde and Ila Rich. She resided in Craven County, NC until age 7 when her Father passed. She has since called Randolph County home. Her beloved Mother Ila passed in 2008. Lambert's two older siblings now survive her – Kathryn Miller, and husband Bill, of Asheboro, NC and Kenneth Rich of Deatsville, AL.

"Pinky", as everyone knew her, worked during high school for Reeves Walgreens in Asheboro. She was also a majorette for the marching band at Asheboro High School where she graduated in 1961. That same June, she married husband John Lambert who now survives her. He remained her constant, steadfast and devoted companion and caregiver until her final moments and now fondly cherishes their 58 years of marriage.

The fall after their marriage, Pinky accompanied her new husband to Killeen, Texas, as John was drafted into the Army. During their two years in TX, Pinky became a licensed cosmetologist for Merle Norman Studios. She proudly recounted how she once had the honor of doing stage make-up for celebrity entertainer Dale Evans, who along with her husband Roy Rogers came to Fort Hood to perform for the troops in the early 60's.

Upon their return to NC in 1963, she continued working for Merle Norman in Asheboro until her artistic creativity grew into a passion for floral designing. She owned her own florist for many years and decorated countless weddings. Years later, Pinky served as John's office manager for a construction company they owned. She also helped design and decorate the interiors of many of the homes built. She loved music and sang in a trio alongside her mother and sister at multiple churches. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school at Franklinville United Methodist Church with her most recent church membership at Fayetteville Street Baptist in Asheboro. By 1996, her creativity shown again in yet another form – she wrote the Bicentennial poem selected to tell the story of the City of Asheboro's 200th birthday celebration. It is permanently inscribed on a plaque that now hangs in Asheboro City Hall.

Pinky's biggest accomplishment and reason for life though was her three children and family. They all now survive her – daughter Robin Lambert of Colfax, NC and sons Andrew Lambert of Randleman, NC and Patrick Lambert of the home. Pinky was also proud Grandma/Maw-Maw to 7 grandchildren – two boys and five girls ranging in age from 2-21 including Gabriel Dillard of Charlotte, NC, Abigail Dillard of Colfax, NC, Rachel Dillard of Gig Harbor, WA and Natalie, Caroline, Adelind and Abram Lambert all of Randleman, NC. She has numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly as well.

Pinky loved cooking, decorating her home and hosting family for each and every holiday with Christmas being her favorite. She looked forward to what became an annual extended family outing to the mountains of NC to select a live Christmas tree. Her compassion and thoughtfulness toward others meant she never failed to send handwritten cards and notes always recognizing other's birthdays and special occasions. She continued each of these traditions until recent years when she began battling diabetes, congestive heart failure and kidney failure. Even while in the midst of her own health issues, she continued to sacrifice and give to others and still provided daily care for her disabled son Patrick. At no time did her faith in the Lord ever waver. She was a strong Christian woman who lived by those principles and led by Godly example. She had numerous favorite Bible scriptures, but the one from 2 Timothy, Chapter 4, Verse 7, seems to describe her life best – "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
