Delbert Gordon Ragsdale, Sr. age 103, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Ragsdale was born in Randolph County on May 10, 1916 to Asbury Martin and Bertha Trogdon Ragsdale. He was a 1934 graduate of Asheboro High School. Delbert worked at Acme-McCrary and then he and his wife moved to Norfolk, VA where he worked in the shipyard. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during WWII. Delbert was employed with Vestal Ford for over 40 years, working in the Parts Department, as a Salesman, and as Assistant Sales Manager. He was a member of Brower's Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Styers Ragsdale, brother, B.T. Ragsdale, and sisters, Cleta Mae Kearns, Ethelene Charnock, and Daisy Vestal. Delbert loved his job, his family, and his church. He enjoyed eating at Biscuitville and K&W Cafeteria.
He is survived by his sons, Delbert Gordon Ragsdale, Jr. and wife Julie and Philip Ragsdale and wife Jane all of Raeford, NC; 2 granddaughters, Elizabeth Braswell and husband Keith of Moravian Falls, NC and Susan Ragsdale of Asheville, NC; 1 great granddaughter, Katherine Braswell of Moravian Falls, NC; and sister, Faedene R. Maness of Asheboro, NC.
Mr. Ragsdale will lie in state at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro on Saturday (May 9th) from 1pm until 5pm.
A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2020, his 104th birthday.
