Johnny Ralph Maness, age 82, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Maness was born in Moore County on May 17, 1938 to Ralph and Glenna Caviness Maness. Johnny was the former co-owner of Asheboro Plumbing & Heating and was retired from the Asheboro City School System after 20 years of service. He was a former Reserve Police Officer with the Asheboro Police Department and a former Volunteer Fireman with the Asheboro Fire Department. Johnny was also licensed in real estate. He was a 53-year member of Browers Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a Lay Leader. Johnny was a Mason and a member of Lodge #699. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his siblings, Montie Mae Russell and husband Herman, Bill Maness and wife Arlene, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dewey and Bonnie Matthews, and sister-in-law, Ruth Taylor and husband Jim. Johnny was a loving husband, Dad, and Paw Paw, and he loved his dog Benji.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara Lee Matthews Maness; daughter, Tonya Maness of Asheboro; son, Ralph Maness and wife Cindy of Asheboro; granddaughter, Brooke Powell and husband Matt of Nathalie, VA; great granddaughter, Carrington Powell; brother-in-law, Harold Matthews and wife Marion of Whispering Pines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Maness's body will lie in state on Friday, June 12, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Randolph Memorial Park with Rev. Richard Routh and Pastor Frank Ramos officiating.
