Lorene Snider Haywood

d. June 14, 2020

Lorene Snider Haywood, born on September 5, 1925 in Denton, NC to the late Oscar Snider and Nora Snider (and raised by stepmother, Daphne Snider), died June 14, 2020. Lorene married Koy Lee Haywood in 1944 and they resided in Asheboro until 1956 when they moved to Louisiana. She worked as a cashier in several loan companies and banks before becoming office manager for the chaplains of the Baton Rouge General Hospital until her retirement in 1987. After retirement, Lorene moved back to Asheboro and served alongside her husband as they ministered to the senior adults at First Baptist Church, Asheboro, for 18 years. Lorene was known as a crafter and a gardener. She donated dozens of prayer shawls and lap afghans to people in the hospital, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. She also was known by many as the "card lady" as she gifted her handmade cards to people she encountered wherever she went. Lorene found great joy in growing plants and trimming bushes. She was an avid volunteer, serving at various times with Randolph Hospital, CUOC, Meals on Wheels, and Social Services. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Koy Lee Haywood. Survivors are her daughter Janice Haywood of Cary, and son Ryan Haywood and his wife Charlotte of Oak Ridge, NC. Lorene treasured her grandchildren, Kristina Snyder (husband Barry) of Durham, and Karey Haywood of Arlington, VA, as well as her great-granddaughters, Meadow and Maizie Snyder of Durham, and step grandson, William Wilson III of Bryson City. Lorene was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Daphne Snider, and her siblings, Roy J. Snider and Kathleen Hunt. A private memorial service will be held on June 17 at First Baptist Church, Asheboro. A viewing for family and friends will precede the service at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, from 10:00-12:00 noon. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro, following the memorial service. The family wishes to thank the caregivers of All Generations, Ruth Emery, Stephen Campion, and the staff of Hospice of Randolph County for their attentive care and support of Lorene and her family during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204-0009 or First Baptist Church, 133 North Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
