Benny Ray Collins, age 69, of Asheboro passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Collins was born in Randolph County on May 30, 1951 to Thomas Lee and Hester Bullins Collins. He was the owner/operator of Benny's South End Towing and adjacent car lot for 30 years. He also owned Northgate Amoco in north Asheboro. South End Towing was a favorite hangout for friends who always enjoyed a cup of coffee, jokes and solving the world's problems. Benny was a workaholic and his livelihood and hobby was driving and working with old cars. He was a tender-hearted man who was a friend to all. When he was able, Benny loved to ride Harley Davidson motorcycles with his friends. In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Collins; children, Benny Ferrell of Roanoke, VA, Wendy Collins of Asheboro, and Bradley Collins of the home; granddaughters, Megan Collins, Samantha Collins, Lily Cyrus, and Callie Ferrell; brother, Harold Collins (Martha) of Sophia; and sisters Brenda Collins of Thomasville, Patricia Collins of Thomasville, and Vanessa Welborn (Randy) of Myrtle Beach, SC.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 5:00-5:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A memorial service will follow on Thursday at 6:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Shook officiating.
