Billy Joe Campbell, Sr. age 83, of Denton passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Campbell was born in Orange County on June 30, 1937 to Hubert and Clara Tickle Campbell. He was employed in the furniture industry for 60 years. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Marie Campbell, granddaughter, Edith Green, and brothers, Eckerd, Clifford, Vance and Jimmy Campbell. Billy loved country music and his Jack Russell Terriers, Bossy, Dipstick, Gizmo, and Digger. He enjoyed going to car shows, yard sales, and flea markets, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Cherokee.
He is survived by his daughters, Lora Willis and husband James of Franklinville, Kerry Staley of Denton, and Diane Hallings and husband Matt of Denton; son, Billy Campbell, Jr. and wife Barbara of Asheboro and Johnny Campbell of Hiddenite, NC; grandchildren, Tiffany Marie Curry and husband Charles of Thomasville, Christopher Lee McDowell of Randleman, Cindy Campbell of Fayetteville, and Golda Nance and husband Derrick; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Diane Prevatte and husband Mike, and Virginia Young; and brother, Vance Campbell of Asheboro.
Mr. Campbell's body will lie in state on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 1:00-4:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 11:00 am at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 North O'Henry Blvd. in Greensboro.
