Elbert Joel Dickens, age 85, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at his home. Mr. Dickens was born on August 24, 1934 in Mocksville, NC to A.C. and Martha Widener Dickens. Elbert served his country in the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed with Rampon and Acme-McCrary and was retired from Eveready Battery. Elbert was a former member of Rushwood Wesleyan Church and a current member of Balfour Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a member of Balfour Lodge #188 A.F. & A.M. Elbert enjoyed clogging and was a clogging instructor. He is survived by his wife, Nina Cox Dickens; sons, Donald R. Dickens and Kenneth G. Dickens both of Asheboro; grandson, Joshua B. Dickens of Asheboro; and brother, Carl Dickens of Asheboro. Elbert's body will lie in state on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 pm Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
