Monte Evan Pope

Monte Evan Pope, age 54, of Asheboro passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020 as the result of an automobile accident. Mr. Pope was born in Asheboro on October 8, 1965 to Daniel Neil and Doris Upton Pope. Monte was a 1983 graduate of Asheboro High School and attended Randolph Community College. He was employed with Margaret Hayes Accounting for over 20 years and later worked for Baldwin Trucking Company. Monte was a member of First Baptist Church. Monte was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter M. Pope and wife Lucy Russ Pope, James and Nora Dicks Upton, aunt, Margaret Hayes, and stepmother, Helen McNeill Pope. He loved to fish, deer hunt, trap rabbits, and play his guitar. He loved to feed and watch hummingbirds. Monte's favorite food was pizza, green beans, and steak. He loved The Eagles and John Fogerty. Monte was a friendly and kind-hearted soul and was loved by many. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his mother, Doris Upton Pope of Asheboro; father, Daniel Neil Pope of Asheboro; brother, Neil Pope, Jr. of Winston-Salem; uncle, Jimmy Upton of Seagrove; and his handsome cat, Bernie. Monte's body will lie in state on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 11:00 am at the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4215 New Hope Church Road in Asheboro with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating.
