Danny Jeff Gallimore

d. August 17, 2020

Danny (Dan) Jeff Gallimore passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2020. He was born October 16, 1954 in Asheboro, NC. After high school, Dan attended Appalachian State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English. To add to his scholastic achievements, Dan received a Master of Public Administration at Lenoir Rhyne University, and pursued his Doctorate in Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed all work except his dissertation. Dan dedicated his life to education and made an impact on so many young people and teachers. He was a much loved and inspiring teacher and mentor. He began his teaching career at West Caldwell High School, in Lenoir, NC, where he taught English and Literature. You certainly could not escape his love of literature, as he had a knack for weaving it into nearly any conversation. He was a gifted teacher and was able to bring out the best in children. During the summer Dan devoted his time to the North Carolina Governor`s School. He served as the Director of both East and West campus for many years. Once in Forsyth County, Dan spent years as an elementary school teacher, assistant principal, and principal. His students would line up every morning to see the tie of the day. Dan enjoyed finding little ways to bring joy and happiness to his students. The last 16 years of his educational career were spent as the principal of Sherwood Forest Elementary School. Dan was so beloved by the students that he was asked to be the 5th grade graduation commencement speaker after he retired. He enjoyed that opportunity and would end his inspirational speech to the students with the Dr. Seuss quote, "Oh, the places you will go!" Retirement did not last long, as he quickly took the role of an adjunct professor at Salem College as a mentor for student teachers. He loved that he could stay active in education and provide positive feedback to students who were just starting out on their teaching journey. To friends and family, Dan was well known for his quick wit and you could always count on him to bring humor to any situation. He was the best storyteller and had the most infectious laugh. He will be so deeply missed. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Ruby Gallimore. He is survived by two brothers, H.R. (Vickie) and Ken (Bridget), and many beloved nieces, nephews, and countless friends (many of who were just like family). Dan wished for a celebration upon his death filled with stories, tears, and laughter. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will honor his wishes at a future date. We would love for you to join us then. Please send an email to dan.gallimore.memorial@gmail.com and we will contact you when a date is set.
