Wanda Rich Robbins

d. September 9, 2020

Wanda Rich Robbins, age 67, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Although she worked outside of the home on several occasions, she considered her most important roles to be wife, mother and grandmother. A lifelong citizen of Randolph County, she was born in Asheboro on November 6, 1952. She graduated from Asheboro High School and later received an associate's degree from Randolph Community College. She was an active member of High Pine Wesleyan Church and served on the Board of Directors. Known for never meeting a stranger, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer throughout the community, including local homemakers groups, 4-H, and the county schools. She was also skilled at weaving and was commissioned by many to create baskets and decorative chair bottoms. To friends and family, she will be remembered as a cook who never saw a crowd she could not feed. For several years in the 1990s she cooked the pregame meal for the Southwestern Randolph High School football team. She was a mainstay at the Asheboro Fall Festival making cotton candy and candied apples. Later in life she spent significant time in Wilmington and loved to sit on the shore at Carolina Beach. That is where she fellowshipped with her close friends and family and enjoyed watching her two grandsons surf, fish and play. Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Roy Herman Rich, mother, Grace Strickland Vestal, and stepfather Jack Barnes Vestal. She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Lynn McKinley Robbins; only son Neal Robbins and wife Beth, of Asheboro; grandsons Everett Neal Robbins and James McKinley Robbins; brothers, Jack B. Vestal, Jr. and wife Kathy, of Siler City and Jeff Vestal, of Asheboro; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who were near and dear to her. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 11 am in the High Pine Wesleyan Church graveyard, 4492 High Pine Church Road in Asheboro with Pastor Justin LaBarre officiating. Memorials may be made to the High Pine Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 4492 High Pine Church Road, Asheboro, N.C. 27205. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the Robbins family.
