Dr. Francis Allan Ervin, age 95, of Asheboro passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Randolph Hospice House.
Dr. Ervin was born in Cloquet, Minnesota on April 17, 1925 to Wilfred and Selma Niemi Ervin. Francis served his country in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, serving in WWII, and retiring as an Optometrist. Following his retirement, Dr. Ervin was employed as an instructor with Durham Technical Community College, later becoming the Dean of Allied Health. Following his retirement from the State of North Carolina, Dr. Ervin was employed with The National Academy of Opticianry. He was a member of West Bend United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley "Lee" Virginia Nelson Ervin, and his sons, Douglas Allen Ervin and Gregory Nelson Ervin.
He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Hunt of Asheboro; grandchildren, Ashley Bernhard (John) of Jacksonville, FL, Heather Guthrie (Robert) of Orlando, FL, and Seth Ervin (Tia) of Salt Lake City, UT; great grandchildren, Courtney and Hunter Bernhard, and Kaia and Zoe Guthrie.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2:00 pm at West Bend United Methodist Church, 1080 Albemarle Road in Asheboro with Rev. Kari L. Howard officiating.
