Mary Dianne Empie (aka, Dianne) passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 in her Asheboro home with her family by her side. She was born on August 6,1942 in Maine. Dianne worked as a bookkeeper for most of her life.
She was a strong and determined woman who loved her family and her friends. She was loyal and faithful. She loved the Lord, and her greatest desire was to serve him with all her heart, and let others know how much God loved them. She loved to encourage people by sending them cards and notes for their birthdays and anniversaries. She was generous and loved to help people. She was a wonderful caretaker and will be missed by all who loved her.
Dianne was an avid reader and loved to learn new things. She was a wonderful cook. She was creative and some of her many hobbies were painting, crocheting, knitting and cross-stitching. She loved her church family and served as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and sang in the choir at Fayetteville Baptist Church. Dianne was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Bickford DeWitt, her first husband, Doug Ackerley, and her brother, Frank DeWitt.
Dianne is survived by her husband, Curt Empie. Her brother, David, and wife, Barbara Dewitt, her daughters, Terri and husband, Dan Groh, and Tracy and husband, Charlie Gockel, and her son, Tim Ackerley. She also is survived by her stepchildren, Mary and husband, Dave Evans, Dan and wife, Carol Empie, Tom and wife, Teresa Empie, and Diane and husband, Rocky Shull. She is also survived by her nephew, Jonathan Dewitt. She has 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Dianne’s body will lie in repose on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 am at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Friday at 11:00 am at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Browder and Pastor Charlie Gockel. Entombment will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
