Porter Redding

d. November 30, 2020

Jane Porter Shepherd Redding, 100, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro, NC where she was a patient in their memory care facility. She was the youngest child of Berrie Bruce and George J. Shepherd born in Richmond, Virginia and lived her childhood in Chester, Virginia. She is predeceased by her first husband, Henry A. Lowe; her second husband, John F. Redding; and her granddaughter, Berrie S. Maxwell. She is survived by her son, Henry Jackson Lowe of Virginia Beach, VA; her daughter Jane L. Maxwell of Asheboro, NC; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Her first husband was a career army veteran, and they lived all over the world moving over forty times before his death in 1977. When she moved to Asheboro and re-married, she was able to stay put in Asheboro, only moving four times. She was a faithful and active member of her church where ever she lived. Serving as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, organizing visitation groups and, at FUMC in Asheboro, helping establish a prayer shawl ministry. She was a member of Colonel Andrew Balfour Chapter DAR, loved to work cross word puzzles and play bridge. In later years she said her goal was to live to be 100. She sometimes claimed to be 100 before she actually accomplished that goal. A celebration of Porter's life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church 224 North Fayetteville Street Asheboro, NC 27203 or St. Jude 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the family.
