Born November 6, 1941 in Matthews Township, Chatham County, NC, Dave was the son of the late Clarence D. and Letis Hope (Caviness) Jones. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois (Atkinson) Jones, and sons David Jones, Jr., of Apex, NC and Michael Wayne Jones of the home in Cary, NC. Also surviving are a sister Carolyn (Jones) Stinson of Siler City, niece Karen Oakley and husband Mike, and nephew Mark Stinson, as well as a great niece and two great nephews, and two great-great nephews. He loved to fish; he loved the outdoors and wildlife; he loved music, especially the country music and folk music that he grew up with. He loved family, friends, and had an especially close relationship with the JM class of 1960. He loved God. His favorite hymn was Amazing Grace; he had a subtle and mischievous sense of humor and unshakeable integrity, honor and beliefs. He was a very active volunteer in our community and loved to organize reunions for his JM classmates. After graduation from Jordan Matthews High School in Siler City, Dave's career began in Winston Salem, NC at Western Electric where he used his artistic talent in technical and medical illustrating. He traveled extensively. For fun, he was very adept at drawing caricatures in pen and ink. He furthered his education at Wake Forest University and Ringling School of Art in Pennsylvania, and later, NC State University. He had several surgeries at Baptist Hospital to straighten his left leg and enable him to walk without crutches, working with surgeons to design a new surgical procedure. And he thrived. Throughout his career in technological, chemical and medical production, engineering, and architecture he provided leadership in the design of buildings and equipment. Away from work, he also pursued his artistic talent to teach drawing and painting, both privately and in the classroom. After retirement he used his talent with pen-and-ink and his love of birds to create beautiful and intricate drawings which beautify everyday items such as mugs, note and greeting cards, decorative totes, and Christmas ornaments.
