Laura Kathryn Bradford Chrismon

d. December 23, 2020

Laura Kathryn Bradford Chrismon went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 23, 2020. She was 94 years old. “My chains are gone. I’ve been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed me. And like a flood His mercy rains. Unending love. Amazing grace.” A memorial graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro with Rev. Dr. Mark Key officiating. Please follow all Covid 19 restrictions if attending the service, including wearing a mask and social distancing. Please abstain from shaking hands and embracing. Born on May 2, 1926, she was the only child of James Allison Bradford and Rosa Guy Bradford of Statesville, NC. Her mother died when she was 10 years old and her father died when she was 17. She then lived with Aunt Roberta Bradford Lyerly and Uncle Rev. Q. O. Lyerly and her 3 first cousins Bill, Jim, and Mark Lyerly who all preceded her in death. She attended Mitchell College in Statesville and transferred to Women’s College, now UNCG, and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. She was a home demonstration agent and later taught school at Franklinville High School. She attended class reunions at Franklinville until age 90. She loved her students and they loved her. She was also a Real Estate agent with Powell Real Estate for several years. One of the joys in her life was her service and devotion to her Lord Jesus and Central United Methodist Church. Her faith sustained her and God was the guiding force in every aspect of her life. She was active in United Methodist Women and the Good Times Club. In her younger years she dearly loved teaching her Sunday School Class of 9th graders. Among other of her many joys in working at the church was being a member of the Builders Sunday School class for over 60 years, singing in the Chancel Choir and especially her beloved friends in the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group. She and her husband were both active in the Optimist Club where they held several executive positions in the NC Conference and local clubs. She loved entertaining and never met a stranger. Nothing brought her greater joy than making new friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years James I. Chrismon. She is survived by Son Al Chrismon (Cindy), granddaughter Kaylie Teague (Jimmie), and great granddaughter Autumn of Winston-Salem. Daughter Nada Winslow (Worth) of Asheboro. Daughter Rosa Chrismon (Rick Gribbon) of Raleigh. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Asheboro and Clapp’s Nursing Home Asheboro for the compassionate care they gave her. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 300 S. Main St. Asheboro, NC 27203, or charity of your choice.
