Odell Hiram Pugh

d. January 1, 2021

Odell Pugh, 92, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, January 1, 2021. Odell was born in High Point, NC, on April 1, 1928. He attended Bethel Friends School through the eighth grade and graduated from Asheboro High School in 1945. He served in the US Army in the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart in 1951. He was Parts Department Manager at Vestal Ford for 43 years, ever-loyal to his beloved Ford cars and to his company. He served his customers well, often meeting them at nighttime or on the weekends to provide what they needed. Customers were stunned at how many part numbers he knew off the top of his head. Odell was a faithful member of Bethel Friends Meeting and served in various capacities, as Clerk of Monthly Meeting, choir member, and as treasurer for over 25 years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud, supportive grandfather, always present to love and encourage. He loved to watch his grandchildren play any sport and enjoyed attending car shows to show his 1946 Ford coupe. He also loved woodworking in his workshop, often building furniture for his family and friends or building special projects with the grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom Dexter Pugh and Virgie Smith Pugh, his first wife of 49 years, Edith Jones Pugh, five brothers, Wade Pugh, Harris Pugh, Bun Pugh, Wallace Pugh, and Donnie Pugh, and his sister-in-law, Anna Pugh. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Edie Poole Pugh, his daughter Beverly Pugh Martin (and husband Tim Martin) of Charlotte, his daughter Patricia Pugh Grey (and husband Bill Grey) of Charlotte, and his sister Phyllis Pugh Allen (and husband Joe Allen) of Ramseur. He is survived by three grandchildren, William Grey (and wife Anna Katherine) of Advance, Thomas Grey (and wife Madison) of Charlotte, and Meg Martin of Raleigh. He is also survived by six sisters-in-law, Marie Pugh and Sue Pugh of Sophia, Mary Ella Pugh and Zora Ellen Pugh of Asheboro, Carole Ledbetter of Climax, and Helen Allen of Pleasant Garden as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Kimberly Shaw of Whispering Pines and Carol Chambers of Pennsylvania, and four step-grandchildren. Mr. Pugh's body will lie in repose on Wednesday, January 6th, 2021 from 10 am - 1 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. A private graveside service for family only will follow at 2 pm at Bethel Friends Meeting, in Asheboro with Rev. Ben Hurley officiating. The Randolph County Honor Guard will provide military honors.
