Edward "Ed" Darnell Bailey, age 82, of Asheboro passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bailey was born in Churchill, TN on February 6, 1938 to Deadrick and Margaret Christian Bailey. Ed served his country in the U.S. Army. He was retired from the NC Department of Agriculture as a Meat & Poultry Inspector. Following retirement, Ed worked part-time for Universal Protection Service. He was an avid computer operator. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Gaynell Wagner, and brother, Kimmy Bailey. Ed loved music, especially Dire Straits. He loved the Tennessee Volunteers and the New York Yankees. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia "Cindy" Cooper Bailey; son, Scott Bailey of Pleasant Garden; daughter, Pamela Cooper of Greensboro; sister, Carolyn Jayne (Paul) of Kingsport, TN; brothers, Roger Bailey (Mary) of Kingsport, TN and Charles Denny Bailey (Katie) of Navarre, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bailey's body will lie in repose on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 1:00-4:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road in Asheboro with Pastor Brad Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Men & Women of Action, 1510 Stuart Rd., Suite 209, Cleveland, TN 37312 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memorial Giving, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
