Joy Lorielle Culpepper, age 39, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Joy Lori was born in Camden, NJ on October 29, 1981. She was a 1999 graduate of Asheboro High School where she was named a Morehead Scholar alternate and was a Drum Major in the Marching Band. Joy Lori was a 2004 graduate, Cum Laude, of Pfeiffer University where she lived at Badin Lake and was a Night Supervisor, Service Personnel Trainer, and Waitstaff at the Old North State Country Club. Following graduation, Joy Lori spent two years as an Americorps VISTA where she organized student community activities at Pfeiffer. Joy Lori was a ropes course facilitator at the Beth Haltiwanger Retreat Center on Badin Lake. Joy Lori was a teaching assistant for a short time both at Pfeiffer University and for the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Chapel Hill. She taught in the Adult High School at Randolph Community College. For the past year, she taught Chinese children of all ages, ESL with VIP KID. She was a member of Central Wesleyan Church and a member of Community Bible Study Class where she was studying the book of John. 1 John 5:4: "For whoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith." She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Joyia Clayton (Ed) of Asheboro; father, Phillip Culpepper of Daphne, Al; sister, Tiffany Rose Frazier (Justin) of Winston-Salem; stepbrother, Edward L. Clayton III (Margaret) of Charlotte, stepsisters, Caroline C. Bailer (James C.) of Matthews and Mary Miles McCaffrey (William) of Lawrenceville, GA; nieces and nephews, Matt Bailer, Rachel Bailer, Anna Howse, Andy McCaffrey, Tyler McCaffrey, Emery Clayton, and Carter Clayton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Foster Street Wesleyan Church, 214 Foster Street in Asheboro. The family will greet friends following the service. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Wesleyan Church c/o Foster Street Wesleyan Church, 214 Foster St., Asheboro, NC 27203, Community Bible Study, c/o Treasurer Stacy Chambers, 703 Dublin Rd., Asheboro, NC 27203, or Keaton's Place Recovery Resource Center, a local 501C-3 non-profit organization, 120 Worth St., Asheboro, NC, 27203 Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the Clayton family.
