James Anthony "Andy" Calloway, age 82, of Asheboro died Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Randolph Hospice House. Mr. Calloway was born February 15, 1939 in Stanly County to James L. and Sadie L. McIntyre Calloway. Andy proudly served in the U. S. Navy during Cuban Crisis and finished his education while in service. He was baptized in the Baptist faith. He was a jack of all trades who never met a stranger and was more than willing to help anyone. Andy was crew chief for a Grand National race team; a police officer for the City of Asheboro for 12 years; was a master welder; retired from Lynn Thomas Grading Company twice and was owner and operator for Calloway Hauling. He was a lapidary making custom jewelry and traveled all over the U.S. for gem and jewelry shows. Andy is survived by his wife, Macie Freeman Calloway of the home; brother, Don Calloway and wife Phyllis of Asheboro; daughter, Angela Calloway Roberts and husband Clay of Walnut Cove; sons, James R. Calloway of Walnut Cove, James A Calloway, II (Jimmy) of Asheboro; step-son, Chris Salmons and wife Crystal of Seagrove; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In keeping with Andy's wishes, cremation has been chosen and there will be no funeral or memorial service. The family would like to express a special thank you to Bo Wansley. Also to Hospice of Randolph for their care. Andy was always treated with the utmost respect and dignity he very well deserved. Andy will be missed by a lot of people.
