Lucas Van Eyk, Sr. Luke age 77, Asheboro, died Nov. 1, 2007 at the home of Wayne and Paula Holder, 829 Sonora Dr, Asheboro. A Graveside Service with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be held Monday, November 5, 2007 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Memorial Gardens with Pastor Boyd Byerly officiating. Mr. Van Eyk was born in Manhattan, New York City, the son of Wilhelm and Anita Van Eyk. Luke was a native of Western New York and graduated from Barker High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan during the Korean Conflict. Settling in Albion, NY, he was owner of L & M Body Shop for several years before moving to Asheboro. He was a truck driver for Stuart Furniture until retirement. Luke had a love for car racing and sports. He enjoyed visiting with his friends watching the races each week on TV. He had a special place in his heart for his two sons, Luke & Jason and was very proud of them in all their accomplishments. Luke faced his illness with great courage, always thinking positive of the outcome. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Mary Ann Freeman. Survivors include sons Lucas Van Eyk, Jr. and his wife Kristiana of Asheboro, NC, Jason J. Van Eyk, MD of Greenville, NC; sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Misiak of Long Island, NY; step-brothers, David Andrews of Albion, NY; Larry Andrews of Wilson, NY, Kalman Andrews of Biloxi, MS; step sister, Maureen Ronson of Austin, TX; several nephews and nieces; former wife and friend, Marcie Cooper of Asheboro, NC and dear, dear friends, Wayne and Paula Holder of Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC. A special thank you to Wayne and Paula Holder and Community One Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Community One Hospice, 147 MacArthur St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
