Archie "Mack" Beasley Priest, Sr., age 76, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 20, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark J. Key officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4215 New Hope Church Rd., Asheboro. Mack was born July 11, 1934 in Carthage, NC to Archie Robert and Mary Mag Fields Priest. He moved to Asheboro at an early age where he met his wife Mary Lou Trogdon. Mack was the founder and owner of Priest Grading Company, Inc. He served the City of Asheboro in numerous ways including serving on the Planning Board for 7 years, on the City Council for 22 years and was Mayor Protem from 2001 until 2005. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club where he served as President and received the George Hixson Fellow award and recently received an Honorary Life Membership. He was chairman of the Randolph County Bond Authority and was also a member of Asheboro Home Builders Association. Mack was an active member of Central United Methodist Church where he served faithfully on various committees and was a devoted member of the Lloyd Bible Class. In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Melanie and Melinda; brothers, Daniel, Charlie, Cary, John, Richard, Bill, Robert, Paul and Irvin; sisters, Alice and Maggie. Mack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou Priest; daughters, Natalie Bell and her husband Ronny of Greensboro, Allison Caviness and her husband Buddy of Union, SC; son, Archie Beasley Priest, Jr. and his wife Kristy of Asheboro; grandchildren, Stephen Bell, Benjamin Bell, Jonathan Bell, Hannah Caviness, Joshua Caviness, Megan Priest, Meredith Priest, Madison Priest; brother, Joe Priest of Carthage. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro and other times at his residence.
