Mr. John Oswald Hall Toledano (Johno), died peacefully at his home in Asheboro, NC on August 31, 2010 at the age of 79. A service of celebration will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd where he served as a Senior Warden, Vestry member and Chairman of the Building Committee. The Rev. Barbara J. Cooke, Rector and the Rev. Dr. Charlie Riddle will be officiating and burial will follow in Asheboro City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Johno was born in Greenville, South Carolina January 13, 1931 to F. Edward and Mary Lou Toledano. He had one brother, Ned Toledano, Jr. The family lived in Atlanta, New Orleans, and Phoenix before moving to Greensboro in 1941. Johno attended the Emerson School in Exeter, NH and graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1950. He attended North Carolina State University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and ROTC. After North Carolina State he served his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers stationed at Fort Bragg until 1957. Johno married Martha McCrary (Boppy) in June 1956. He is survived by Boppy; their son John and his wife Frances and their 3 children Hall, Mary Frances, and Altman of Fort Mill, SC; their daughter Cary Ashley and her husband Joe and their 2 children Kathleen and Sarah of Charlotte, NC; their daughter Jane Swartzwelder and her husband Tom and their 3 children Madison, Macon and Benjamin of Mattaponi, VA; and their son Frank and his wife Pamela and their 2 children Mattox and Gabrielle of Greensboro, NC. Johno began his career in Greenville, SC working for his uncle at Morris Construction Company and Daniel Construction Company. Johno moved his family to Asheboro in 1964 and joined Acme-McCrary Corporation where he worked until he retired in 1999. He was Corporate Secretary of both the Acme-McCrary and Sapona Manufacturing Company, Inc. and a member of both Boards of Directors, President of Randolph Oil Company, and past Chairman of the Local Board of RBC Bank. Johno loved Asheboro and its people, serving as past Chairman of the Asheboro City School Board, past President of the Asheboro Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and past President of the Asheboro-Randolph Chamber of Commerce. He was a board member of the NC Zoological Society and Past President of the Greensboro Symphony.
